Austin served in the South African Military, carrying forward a steadfast sense of duty and a tireless work ethic that shaped the way he met life’s demands. In time, his calling broadened into service of a different kind: he became certified in yoga, life coaching, and Reiki healing, and later was an Ordained Minister. With faith as a steady compass and a generous spirit at the center of his days, Austin offered encouragement and care to others in ways both practical and heartfelt.
Seeking a better life, Austin came to America and began his life here as an over the road truck driver—work that required long hours, perseverance, and sacrifice. Yet even in the weight of responsibility, he was known for warmth and good humor, meeting people with kindness, and giving of himself without keeping score.
Austin’s hands were rarely still. He loved gardening and building, and his curiosity found expression in arduino programing—interests that reflected both patience and ingenuity, and the quiet satisfaction he took in making things grow, take shape, and come to life.
Austin is survived by his wife, Tina M Luckhoff whom he married on February 15, 2019. They lived in Pennville, IN until moving to Remus, MI in 2024. He is also survived by step children Crystal (Terry) Taylor, Russell Oliver, Jacquelyn (Aaron) Taylor, Danni (Jeremy) Weber, Lynn (Colin Rouse) Oliver, Hunter Quimby, Robbie Quimby, Phoenix Quimby; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister Enalja (Callie) Louw; in laws Gary (Wanita) Kruger, Paula Jewell, Carol (Kenny) Piper, Patty (Rolando Varela) Anderson; niece Kayla Louw and nephew Luan Louw; along with many step nieces and nephews; cousin Jo-Ann Harrison-Nel; and family friend Louis Smit.
Austin will be remembered for a life marked by faithful devotion to his wife, generous care, and a selfless readiness to help—qualities made brighter by the gentle humor he carried with him. His presence, his service, and his love will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of his life will be announced at a later date, according to his wishes.
