Gerald Thompson

Gerald Thompson, age 92, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Lake Odessa, went to be with his beloved wife, Mary, on Saturday morning, July 10, 2010 with family and friends by his side. Gerald was born in Alto, MI on October 26, 1917 to Henry and Clara (Moore) Thompson. He was united in marriage to Mary White on January 16, 1944. Gerald had been a farmer for nearly 40 years before retiring with Mary in Grand Ledge in 1971. After retiring from farming, he worked for a home builder for several years before working at Quality Farm & Fleet until retiring again in 1985. He had enjoyed farming for many years, and taking camping trips to Mecosta, MI during his retirement. Gerald is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Michael) McCarthy of Mulliken, MI, and Deborah (Donald) Aseltine of Evart, MI; granddaughter, Donita (Matt) Firman of Charlotte, MI; step-granddaughter, Lisa (Pat) Smith of New Lenox, IL; step-grandson, James (Stephanie) McCarthy of Dewitt, MI; great grandchildren, Kaylee and Kelsie Firman; step-great grandchildren, Josh and Adam McCarthy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Gerald in death were his parents; brothers, Frank and Willis; sisters-in-law, Pauline and Erma; and his beloved wife, Mary. Visitation will be held from 2-3 PM on Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa.
