Bob was born on June 23, 1931, to Allen and Leah (Beland) Cross as the first of five children at the family farm in West Sebewa. He Served his country proudly during the Korean War, also staying active in the honor guard with the local VFW. It was very important to him to honor those who did not come home. Bob worked hard and enjoyed carpentry work, including building his own home. He had a big smile and was always willing to help friends and neighbors.
Married to Judith Stalter for 43 wonderful years, they built a life together at their home on Jordan Lake. Once Bob retired from General Motors they spent their winters in Fort Myers, Florida for the past 25 years. In the early years, Bob enjoyed skeet shooting, playing softball with his General Motors team, and snowmobiling in the wintertime. He also always looked forward to November 15th when he enjoyed deer hunting with family and friends. Bob loved boating on Jordan Lake and later the Gulf of Mexico.
He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren! Being a farmer at heart, he took much pride in watching his grandsons, Kory and Kyle Brodbeck, in the fields. In Florida he loved attending dinners and dances at the clubhouse, saving every dance for his beloved Judy. He also loved cruising around the park on his golf cart. He stayed active, even in his later years, always finding something to do or someone to help out.
Bob will be dearly missed by his loving wife Judy, his children: Jeff (Brenda) Cross, Jody (Patrick) Strang, Bill (Darcy) MacDonald, Bruce (Julie) MacDonald, Keith MacDonald, Darin (Tracey) MacDonald, Steve (Mindy) MacDonald, 16 loving grandchildren and 14 special great-grandchildren. Brothers Dean (Maureen) Cross, Kendall Cross, Sister Elaine (Don) Nash, Family friend Bonnie Edsall, Sister-in Law Joyce (Don) Hofstra, Brother-in-law Jerry (Pam) Stalter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Bill and Mildred Stalter, brother Don Cross, sister-in-law(s) Jeri Lou Cross and Karolyn Stalter, brother-in-law Robert Tucker, and granddaughter Keisha MacDonald.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 12noon until time of service at 1:30pm at Koops Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Jackson-Mutchler VFW Post 4461.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Jackson-Mutchler VFW Post 4461 or the Central United Methodist Church in Lake Odessa, MI.
