Years ago, as a new school administrator, Rog told me "don't forget to use your heart" when working with students and parents. Advice that has served me well in my career. Thanks Rog. ROG WAS THE PRINCIPAL AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WHEN I ATTENDED THERE, AND IN LATER YEARS I BECAME AN OPTICIAN AT LAKEWOOD EYECARE IN LAKE ODESSA. ROG WAS A PATIENT AND CAME IN THE OFFICE OFTEN. I ALWAYS ENJOYED VISITING WITH HIM,HE NEVER FAILED TO MAKE ME LAUGH, ESPECIALLY WITH HIS HAT THAT LOOKE LIKE HE HAD SPIKED HAIR ON TOP. I was in Mr. Eggers World History Class the day JFK was shot.  Mr. Eggers came into class late and was as pale as a ghost.  He told us what had happened.  I'll never forget the look on his face. Tate, Rog Was always was able to see the good in everyone whether it was students or teachers. He helped me become a head football coach and was a mentor as I became the A.D. I'm so saddened to hear my coach is gone.  I will alway be indebted to Coach Eggers for being a mentor for me for over forty years.  When I was 15 years old he became my coach, guidance for college, coaching, teaching and becoming an administrator. I'm late with comments, yet I respected Roger greatly. As an LHS  student(71-75), I liked him & considered him a friend. However,in recent years, while reflecting on high school, I realized how outstanding he was at his job. How anyone could deal with so much controversy, negativity, & complaining & just work away & never seem down was amazing.  What thick skin! I am amazed by it today.  I wanted to tell him this the next time I saw him. Well, I'll say it now: Roger, thanks for doing your job well & for being a good friend! Rog:  You took me under your wing in 1968 and helped me to become a successful coach.  Sharon and I will really miss you.  You handled a very tough job as AD and Asst. Principal and did it well. Your honesty, fairness and loyalty to your coaches were your strong points. It seems unfair that Lakewood would lose two of it's great leaders in the same week.  We coaches referred to you as "Bevo" and you referred to Steve as "PeeWee".  Now that you are gone from us, we are sure that you are taking care of Troy again.  When you join that basketball team up there--make sure your teammates let you have your shot from the deep corner.
