My prayers are for peace and comfort for the family - I know there are many wonderful memories you have to share.  When I worked for Steve as his secretary during the time he was Superintendent at Lakewood, it always amazed me how thoughtful and respectful he was of everyone who worked for him -- especially me.  I felt that my work and my very being was valued and appreciated. Steve was a colleague during his days at Lakewood High School.  We also worked closely on LEA business as I was secretary and he was Chief Negotiator.  I always marveled at his quick wit, his ability to analyze a situation, and after analysis to see more than the one or two options that most of us would see.  He was just that clever.  There was never a dull moment in faculty meetings, inservice, or Rep Council meetings with Steve there!  My sincere condolences to all of his family. Mr. Secor was my teacher and my softball coach and I so enjoyed him in both areas.  He was always happy and just made my day fun!  He will be sadly missed by many.  My favorite phrase that he always said in softball was " It will only sting for a minute!"  when we would get pounded in the shins with a grounder.  He always made me laugh! Steve Secor was a long time colleague and family friend of Sharon and mine.  Donna, Steve, Andy and Scott went on many vacations with the Krauss and Wood family.  Our kids were the same ages and ski trips and trips to the Bahamas and Mexico will live in our memory forever. We went to MSU driver ed classes together, taught many students over 20 years how to drive defensively using the IPED model, and worked together on a number of LEA contracts. I have fond memories of Mr. Secor as a speech teacher as well as a coach.  I will always remember (and quite often share with others) the phrase he shouted out to me after taking a low line drive to my shin..."Come on Frizzell, it only hurts for a moment, get back in it".  To this day I have used this phrase with my children, staff and players.  It is quite amazing how quickly it makes the impact of the moment less dramatic, lol. I was searching for friends that I haven't seen in a long time and was so surprised and saddened to see Steve's obituary.  We met at MSU and spent many hours playing cards in the dorm when we probably should have been studying.  He had the best sense of humor and was so much fun to be around. As I told Rolly Krauss at Steve's funeral, there were a few teachers/coaches who did more for me in high school (1971-75) than they will ever know.  Steve was one of them.  My childhood dream then was to work in broadcasting, & I eventually was an announcer at 4 radio stations from 1979 to 1990. As Forensics coach, Steve was my first tutor. I was in radio news, which involved preparing & announcing a newscast.  I even won Districts one year!  I also had him for Debate & Comparative Government, & consider him one of my best teachers, ever.  I didn't always like what Steve had to say to me, such as disciplining me for being late to class or criticizing one of my newscasts. However, he helped me to become a better person------& showed love to a lonely farm boy in the 70's.  Thanks, Steve!  I'll never forget you! Part to continued...  He also made us do side stretches every practice (told us we'd thank him someday for our girlish figures - I still laugh as I think of him when I do them).  We used to love to tease him back - take & chew up his gum when he left the pack on the bench.  We always flustered him with our constant need of bathroom stops - one morning trying to make a tournament on time - we begged a stop - we had the old station wagons with back doors - flustered already with us he was and then as we got out the back door it came off the hinges.  He never got mad - just dealt with it and of course gave us a bit of jabbing on it.  He never played favorites and always expected your best.  He was fun and inspiring. Michelle    I wanted to share a few memories:  Mr. Secor inspired me at the time I was in school (grad 84) he was my speech teacher.  He was good - inspiring & tough - it caused me to go on as part of debate team at Hillsdale.    Mr. Secor (Fred as we nicknamed him - not sure how that name came about but it stuck) was also our softball coach -- the best softball coach ever!  He would get after us in such a fun and whitty way to cause us to excel and that we did.  He'd say things like- my grandma can throw better than that (if we had a lame throw) or what do you want me to do come hold your hand to home (when we would miss an opportunity to steal home plate). I only had Mr. Secor for one Speech class as a Freshman before moving from Lake-o.  However, I still vividly remember specific events from his class after all these years, and he was one of my favorite teachers. So many memories of the oldest of the cousins.  First memory is Sundays at grandma's where we had the whole yard to play in and the twins followed Uncle Larry around. Another is Steve & Gary staying at my house during fair week and riding the kiddie rides with me even tho they wanted the bigger rides.  Another fond memory is when Donna & I lived with Aunt Rita & Uncle Bill, even tho it was bursting at the seams and Steve had to give up his room and  move in with Brian & Billy.  Must've been hard giving up his bedroom but never heard Steve complain.  Loved the card games that lasted late into the night and the McDonald's we all worked at.  Called the Secor's McDonald's cause seemed like once Steve worked there the rest of his relatives followed.  Steve I'm so sorry we lost contact except for Grandma's party. I did not really know Steve Secor. I only knew of him through his son Andy and through an email listserv he was on for city managers when I finally got up the nerve to ask if he was related to Andy. He seemed like a very nice man and I am very sorry for your loss. May God be with you in this time of sadness. Mr. Secor was our debate coach and forensic speech coach in  the late 70's.  He always drove us to our tournaments, his humor was incredible.  He loved practical jokes, he could dish it out and take them  as well.  I remember when I paid a fellow student to affix an old Nixon campaign bumper sticker on his car in 1978. He laughed more than anyone.  I'm a better person because of his teaching leadership and compassion.  If you want to touch the future be a teacher, Mr. Secor has inspired thousands, my deepest sympathy to his family.                              Posted by  Lewis W.
