Retired Military Officer Air Corp/Air Force “Grumps”
July 16, 1922 – August 7, 2013
91 years old.
Our loss is Heavens gain as we mourn the loss of a very good man, father, friend and WWII hero! Donald went to be with his beloved wife, Laura Ann whom he missed with all of his heart. They were married 69 years when he lost the love of his life five years ago. Donald went to heaven peacefully and leaves behind his adoring family and many friends. Everyone he met became an instant friend and he will be missed dearly.
He leaves behind four children, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and was predeceased by his wife Laura Ann and his daughter Laura Ann Moore Marsh. Grieving his loss is his eldest son, Robert, his wife Mara and three grandsons, Donald, Robert and Marden. His middle son, Douglas, his youngest son Dale and his wife Cathy and two grandsons Adam and Ian, his youngest daughter Merry and two grandchildren Jesse and Julia Glendinning. We along with his namesake grandson Donald’s, three great granddaughters, Alexa, Ashley and Hannah will miss “Grumps” terribly. He leaves behind a legacy for his family that will carry them throughout the rest of their lives. He raised his family by example as an honest man of integrity, strong sense of honor and a wicked sense of humor that his entire family inherited! He is remembered as a WWII hero as a Flight Engineer on the B17 Bomber. He was a loving, devoted and faithful husband and the best father any child could ever dream of. After serving the United States Air Force after WWII he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in the USAF after 28 years. After retirement he continued on in his career as a Sports Copy Editor for the Miami Herald for the next 20 years, and never missed a day of work. He was raised in Delray Beach, and after traveling the entire world in the Air Force, he called West Palm Beach home after living in Miami. Friends may visit from 12:00 – 2:00pm on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00pm. Memorial contributions can be made in his name at the local American Legion Post 258.
