I'm sorry to hear about Lt. Col. Steele. He was one of my first contacts when I joined the Florida National Guard in 1975. He always treated me fair. I've been trying to reconnect with some of my FNG friends. He was one of the good ones.

We are sorry to hear of Mr. Steele's passing. This was his final graduation into the waiting arms of the Lord. Prayers for the Steele family.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was a really good man. I know he is with your Mother again. God's blessing to you all.

For all to know and remember, Ed Steel was a man of many honorable attributes but first and foremost, he was a good friend and a good man!  A colleague and friend for many years since serving together in the Army National Guard, I remember a man who always thought about the troops with the best intentions.  He always looked out for me, I always looked up to him and he will always missed!

To the Steele family. So sorry for your loss. I never met Mr. Steele, but his wife was my History Teacher at Cardinal Newman. In death, they are together. Rest in Peace Mr. Steele.

I will remember Mr. Steele as a man with great heart. It was obvious to me that he loved his family very much by the way he spoke about them, proudly. I am so grateful to have had little moments in time with him. Peace and hugs to Stacey and Phoenyx, Ed and Kat. Continued prayers and love to entire family and friends.

Here is what I wanted to say today about my dad. I got choked up, and the words just would not come out. 

My Dad. What can I say about my dad? My dad was awesome. He was the kind of dad all the kids in the neighborhood wished was their dad. He was the dad who went to work and shot guns and drove tanks. He was the dad who would help you build a tree fort or a rollercoaster in your backyard. He was the dad that would take you camping, whether it was in the backyard or in the everglades. He was the dad that would help you put your bike back together when you took it apart. 

My dad was the coolest of the uncool dads ever. Old school - crew cut, ring the bell when dinner was ready dad. My dad was the dad who looked at any problem as if it was a mission to conquer a hill, and he was going to grab you by the belt and drag you with him if you weren't strong enough to get it done under your own power. He taught me everything I know about strength, determination, ingenuity. He inspired me. 

My dad was my hero. He was my hero when I was 4 years old and he helped me put shingles on the shed because the roofers were putting shingles on the house. He was my hero at age six when he told me to be a man and put that worm on the hook. He was my hero at age ten when he showed me how to shoot a rifle and how to clean it and how to respect it. He was my hero at age 14 when he took me to a parking lot and showed me how to drive using a manual three on the tree in his old Chevy pickup. He was my hero every day. He didn't do it for me. He made sure I did it myself. I feel like he carved me out of stone. He made me tough, he made me independent, he made me think about whatever problem I had. 

I remember the first set of Craftsman tools my dad bought me for Christmas, when I was very young. You cannot even imagine the feeling when I was able to help him actually work on his boat, or his truck, or his car, and be competent and able to actually help. That was his gift to me. He taught me to fear nothing. And the lesson was taught by example. My dad was my hero. He was then, is now, and will forever be my hero. I love you Dad.

As a former history student of your mother's, please accept my sincerest sympathies for the loss of your beloved father and grandfather Ed! He and Joan were very much in love with each other. I visited Ed in Kennedy Hospital in 2009 after I found out that Joan had died in 2005. She came to see me when my mother's died and was at Quattlebaum's. Both of your parents have left you and us their former students and friends a tremendous legacy of caring service to God and Country. God bless them both! I celebrated Mass for Ed this morning at the Catholic Chapel at Ft.Sill, Oklahoma where I am stationed. God bless all of you! Requiescat in pace!
