Gene graduated from Palm Beach High in 1953 and attended Marion Military Institute in Alabama where he became Captain of the White Knight Drill Team. Gene received an appointment to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD but elected to attend Georgia Tech where he received a degree in Industrial Engineering. In 1957 Gene married Barbara Britt and was blessed with three sons. Barbara preceded Gene in death after 31 years of marriage. Gene married Joyce Haughey Seither and gained two lovely daughters. They were married for 35 years. He often said he "was blessed to have two wonderful and beautiful wives that were the loves of his life."
Gene loved softball, hunting, fishing, running, golf, woodworking, traveling, the mountains of North Carolina, his fourteen grandchildren and softball. Did we mention he loved softball? He played up to five days a week for over 25 years and played for several years on a travel team. He was also a published author. His book “Get ‘Em Laughing” contained funny stories and jokes appropriate for any gathering. Gene was a Bible teacher and Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Lake Worth. He served as Personnel Chairman and on other numerous committees over the years. He cherished the summers and falls spent in the mountains of NC and loved his church family at Mountain View Church, Black Mountain.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Joyce, his sons Randall (Nancy) of Texas, Kendall (Linda) of Alabama, Darrell (Marlu) of Lake Clark Shores; daughters Holly Bliss (John) of South Carolina and Heidi Dovey (Jacob) of Royal Palm Beach and fourteen grandchildren who adore their "granddaddy."

2 Corinthians 4: 16"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
