Just realized that my great friend and advocate of everyone in need passed away.  I will always remember his advocacy and effort on behalf of so many.  Rest in peach my friend.  Susan Bucher

Dear Jeri & Jessica,
I can't believe that just a short time ago when I spoke to Hap that it would be the last time. He was so happy and full of life. He always had a positive thing to say to everyone.  Jeri, I remember the first time you  met each other. it seemed to be love at first sight. . How time passes so quickly. You were so blessed to have been married to him for 42 years. Jessica, the pictures of you and your Dad, he was so proud of you and loved you with all his being. Please know that nothing that is ever loved is ever lost, and no one who has ever touched our hearts can really pass away. He will remain with us in each memory of which he was a part. Howard you will alway be a shining light in my heart. I will never say good bye, only good night my dear friend, until we met again.

Jeri, Howard was one year ahead of me at LWHS but I knew him as one of the really cool, and really nice guys and was very touched by the photos assembled to honor his life.   I left the area following graduation but am fortunate to have Carol Mitchell keeping me informed when we lose a classmate.  Just wanted you to know that a distant friend knows of, and shares in your loss.

Jeri, just saw this notice, and I am so sorry to hear of Howard's  passing.  I went to school with him, and he was a good person to be around.  I lived west of Lake Worth.  He was a good and kind person.   Again, my condolences to you and family.

I grew up in Englewood Manor and remember Howard as a young boy. I just viewed the gallery and it appears Howard lived a rich, full life and loved his family well. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I remember Howard from Lake Worth Junior High and Lake Worth High.  He was a friend of my brother's, Jim Hurst, and I remember him as a really nice guy, and lots of fun!  So sorry for his family's loss.

When I think of Howard, I think of a person who will provide information on your topic of choice. He specialized in issues concerning mental health/altruistic charities dealing with animal and domestic abuse as well as the degradation of our environment. But I think most important-Howard understood the role politics plays with all the fore-mentioned issues. Parting words of inspiration -"you got to do something"a Howard original...

As a former client and  then volunteer at scmhc Howard was always respectful to me in both roles. Words cannot express the shock and sadness to hear this news. Condolences to his family.

I am shocked and so sad to learn of Howard's death. He was so full of life,  love, energy, humor and compassion. I can still hear his laugh! I do not know the circumstances, but whether his passing was unexpected or he had been ill, I know it must be a very difficult situation. He loved his girls so much! You are in my heart and prayers. My sincere condolences to the Hazard family and his circle of friends. I have worked with Howard for the past 9 years at South County and his presence will sorely be missed. He was "One of the Good Ones" and his quick wit and sense of humor have left a mark on my heart and soul. RIP Howard and I will see you on the other side my friend.

What can I say? I have worked with Howard for 28 years. He was truly devoted to his family and clients. South County is not the same and the clients miss him dearly.I wait every day for him to come upstairs to make copies for his groups. Rest in peace, Howard, my friend.

A great, kind, proud husband and father.  He had a smile for everyone, was one of the most considerate people, we were blessed to know him....he will be missed.

Howard was such a kind and caring man; I am so pleased I got to know him.  He was a longtime friend and supporter of NAMI, volunteering his time and energy to help others.  His compassion, humor, wit, and advocacy be missed by many.

A death as occurred and everything is changed.
We are painfully aware that life can never be the same again,
That yesterday is over,
That relationships once rich have ended.

But there is another way to look upon this truth.
If life now went on the same,
Without the presence of the one who had died,
we could only conclude that the life we remember 
made no contribution,
filled no space,
meant nothing.

The fact that this person left behind a place
that cannot be filled is a high tribute to this individual.

I was so sad to hear of Howard's passing.  He was a stellar human being who cared deeply about his family, his friends and those he served.  I have such wonderful memories of our days at Goodwill years ago when I was new and he "showed me the ropes."    He was a good friend, a mentor, and a great example of how to serve others.  And he was also a regular guy twitch his own quirks like the rest of us trying to make his way through this crazy world.  My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve his unexpected loss.  I wish I could be there to say good-bye and give you both a hug.

I have know Howard since 1988. Over the years, we shared many laughs and many disagreements. I will forever be inspired by Howard's audacious, irreverent sense of humor and his incredible heart for those with mental illness. He is irreplaceable.
