John Perry Shuler, lovingly known as Perry, passed away on April 24, 2025, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, at the age of 75. Born on November 2, 1949, in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York, Perry lived a rich and vibrant life full of humor, creativity, service, and love.
Perry spent most of his life in New York City, where he built both his family and his career. In 2020, he moved to Lake Worth, Florida, with his beloved wife Nancy to enjoy his later years surrounded by sunshine and peace.
Perry proudly served two tours in Vietnam as a United States Marine—a commitment that shaped his strength, resilience, and deep sense of responsibility. After returning home, he pursued higher education at NYU and the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he combined his artistic eye and entrepreneurial spirit to become a florist. He went on to own and operate J.P. Floral Designs in New York City, creating stunning arrangements for corporate offices, cozy French bistros, and countless weddings. He loved his work and took immense pride in every detail.
Perry was a man of many passions. He loved fishing—whether on a boat or standing on the beach—cooking delicious meals (skills passed down from his mother, Ruth), and watching cooking shows and old movies. Whether with close friends, neighbors, or total strangers, Perry was always ready with a joke—some of which landed beautifully, and others that left people scratching their heads, and laughing anyway.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Dustin (mother, Gloria) and Taylor Rae (mother, Nancy); and his grandchildren Darren, Ashley (and her children Alan and Alex), Laila, Kaiden (Dustin), and Bradley Thomas (Taylor). He is also survived by his brother Marvin (and nieces Tiffany and Tasha), sister Jill (and nephew Erik), and half-sister Felicia.
Perry was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Joseph; his aunt Cora Lee; brothers Duke, David, and James; and his sister Mary Alice. He was the eldest of seven siblings.
Perry’s presence, laughter, and stories will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A committal service for Perry will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 2:30 PM at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S State Rd 7, Lake Worth, Florida 33467.
