Mary Frances Burns

Born on July 4, 1922 in West Palm Beach, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruth Huff. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach.

Mary graduated from Palm Beach High School and later received her nursing degree from Southern Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, New Orleans in 1944. Mary worked alongside surgeons and other medical staff at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach and pioneered their Outpatient Surgery Department.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by her daughters Frances (Michael) Holden and Barbara (David) Hoffman; son Robert D. Burns; sisters Betty Jean (Billy) Begore and Ruth Almond. She is beloved “grandma” to Melissa (JR) Thompson, Michael (Nicole) Holden, Jr., Daniel (Ashley) Hoffman, Andrew Hoffman, Rachel Hoffman and Katie (Drew) Rice and “great grandma” to eight.

She is preceded in death by her sister Patsy (Charles) Fuller.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 22 from 1 to 2pm at the Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth. A Graveside Service will follow at 2pm at Lake Worth Memory Gardens 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth.
