A devoted servant of God, we announce the passing of Roger Roy Bettin, a man who lived a full 97 years, guided by his unwavering faith. Roger was born in Lakefield, Minnesota. A life-long Lutheran, his parents Roy and Edna raised Roger as a child of God and attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church as a family.
Roger studied at Worthington Community College and graduated from the University of Minnesota with an engineering degree. He served his country in both the Army and the Navy.
Roger was married to Joyce (Garber) for over 50 years. After retiring from the military, he and Joyce moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Roger worked for Collins Radio. A few years later they moved to Rochester, New York where he and three partners founded R.F.Communications.
RF Communications was bought by the Harris Corporation in 1972, allowing Roger to retire and move the family to Florida. They settled in Atlantis in 1974. Roger became deeply active in the community with Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lake Worth Beach where he served the Lord for more than 50 years.
God used Roger to further His Kingdom by serving on just about every Church Board and Committee and blessing many people with his wisdom and generosity. Roger also developed friendships around the world as a long-time Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed playing golf at The Lost City Golf Club.
In 2003 Joyce passed away and a year later Roger married his former high school classmate, Carolyn (Johnson). Together they enjoyed many happy years travelling America in their motorhome and exploring the world on cruises. Carolyn passed away in 2021.
Another passion included his University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team where he had season tickets as a longtime financial supporter.
Our Heavenly Father blessed Roger with a son Bradley Roger Bettin, a daughter Cynthia Joyce Eberly and seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held May 2nd from 2PM - 4 PM at Dorsey E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth Beach Fl. 33461. ( Memorial service will be held at 3:30).
