Tina liked to visually bring the outside in, and constantly be reminded of nature. She wanted to install custom bifold doors and rearrange the room so she could view the garden from bed. She designed the headboard to resemble a garden trellis using metal bars and scroll work removed from the spiral stairs. Alex then welded it all together. c. 2017

Tina simulated coral stone using applied plaster to form the arched opening that separates the kitchen from the breakfast nook. Working on overhead surfaces required careful selection of materials, mix ratios and technique. In some areas as many as 8 layers of plaster were used. c. 2014

Tina designed the stove area to look as though a castle hearth (i.e., the fireplace used for cooking) was retrofitted with modern stove and appliances. This is another location where acoustic ceiling tiles were used to simulate the texture of stone. c. 1987

All of Tina's path curve, so you have to wonder what is around the bend.

Tina created a banner in accord with heraldic rules with her Murdock shield over the Stewart shield. This cloth banner hung in the living room for many years. c. 2001

A Giant Crinum Asiaticum, or string lily, decorates the path to the Pool House. c. 2023

Tina planted Hibiscus schizopetalus, or Japanese Lantern, in several of her garden beds. They were cultivated from cuttings taken from Florence's yard in Lake Worth. c. 2023

This flowering plant, Damiana, has volunteered in several of Tina's gardens. She first used it as a pollinator to attract bees. c. 2023

Inspired by photographs taken by the Hubble Telescope, Tina painted a swirling nebula as background to the dragon skull hanging in the kids room. Mural 6'w x 4'5"h. c. 2008

While designing the house, Tina reviewed dozens of photographs, such as these, taken during her travels throughout the US and Great Britain. She chose to mix two different construction techniques from different eras to give the impression the west wing is hundreds of years older than the east. c. 1985

At Christmas time the tower was outlined with 1500 white lights. At first we used twinkle lights. But the resulting conflagration, viewed indirectly through the pine trees, made it appear the house was on fire. c. 1988

One of Tina’s favorite pastimes was visiting the ocean. Here, she painted mangrove islands amidst a breaking shoreline.  Mural 6'5"w x 8'h. c. 2016

Tina applied paint on the wallboard using the Trompe-l'œil method. The stone arch appears to have depth but is actually a two-dimensional painting. The hallway beyond the arch is real. The cast stone figure at the top of the arch, which resembles Tina, has turned toward the door to great visitors. c. 1998

Tina designed this porch to feature these ornate columns (remember the Apprentice column in the living room?) She sculpted, and painted the squared column capitals using deep blues and greens to pop against the neutral textures of the columns. c. 2015 

During one of her travels, Tina photographed a moody sky full of orange, pink, and brown clouds because it was beautiful. She painted that sky here, and would pull out the photograph  if anyone tried to claim that cloudy skies aren’t really like this sometimes. c. 2014

Tina placed this small garden with a water fountain off of the breakfast nook so she would see greenery and flowers while she read the morning paper. She asked for the three pallets of bricks for her birthday, then graded and set the pavers herself. Looking south over the small fountain, the back yard is framed by the metal arch trellis. The long plan was to someday build a stone “Stargate” between the coconut palms in the background. c. 2015

One of the few thorny ornamental plants on the site is the front door bougainvillea, which is over 40 years old. As it grew, it was chained to the tower for support. To survive hurricanes and tropical storms the support chains would be cut loose and the bougainvillea lowered to the ground. After the storm, it was raised up with a block and tackle. Later, Tina decided to design and have built this wooden trellis to support the plant and help shade the dining room from the setting sun. This trellis is a favorite cat perching area as well. c. 2020

Every castle needs a moat. Tina added a series of stepping stones to make it possible to walk on water, just for fun. c. 2013

Tina loved the sound of falling water. It was inevitable that a water feature would be included in the front of the house. Tina designed and crafted the stream, waterfall and pond. c. 2013

This is an example of a mural that Tina reworked over the years. In this landscape of a Tuscan scene, Tina wasn’t happy with the shade and shadow technique of the columns. She repainted them several times. The arched fenestration is left unfinished, with Tina’s chalk lines visible. Mural 6'4"w x 5'h. c. 1990-2010

Tina designed and painted this children’s art table using a grand nephew as the inspiration for the boy flying on the dragon. She took care of him during the weekdays when he was a toddler/preschooler. c. 2019

True Monty Python fans will appreciate Tina’s humor in this front door greeting that she carved and painted. Loosely translated from Celtic it says “Swamp Castle”. Let's hope we never have to say this house “burned down, fell over, and then sank into the swamp.” c. 1990

Jungle and Beach mural (left). This is Tina’s largest mural (34 ft. wide). She designed the pool house with a solid wall on the north side without windows, so she could have a blank canvas for this jungle and beach mural scene. The grass wainscot and ceiling finish complete the feel of a Pacific Island getaway. Mural overall 34'w x 4'4"h. c. 2005-2006

The pool house also provided an opportunity to paint faux skylights. The left is a daytime sky. The right is a nighttime sky. c. 2007

Similar to the recess under the library stairs, Tina designed the exterior facade of the pool house with a recess to use as a canvas. She painted these boats on a beach, with an island off against the horizon.  Mural 4'w x 6'h. c. 2005

Tina designed this porch to feature these ornate columns. They frame the garden view from the bedroom to give the feel of a Pacific Island paradise. After a hectic day, she would lay on the bed to be transported to Bali. c. 2015

This lively pond is the 5th generation of a fish pond created over several decades. Each one was bigger, better and more successful than the last. Tina designed the multiple cascading basins and meandering stream not only for beauty but to maintain the health of the fish. She excavated the main pool to a sufficient depth to protect the koi from predation by herons and raccoons. c. 2011 - 2015

Originally, Tina painted a castle to the right of the dragon. Unsatisfied with the work, she painted over nearly all of the castle except for one of its turrets. She converted the turret into a steampunk satellite hovering in front of the moon. The dragon is a recurring element in Tina’s designs. They work well with castles of all types and contribute to Halloween and party decorations. Mural 7'w x 7'8"h. c. 2010

One of the few murals that Tina viewed as complete enough to sign is this mural of a castle in the woods. A great blue heron (on the right) greets you before you notice the castle off in the forest beyond. Tina designed and assembled the chandelier with help from  Alex, who welded the metal. Before this chandelier was added to the dining room, the opening in the floor above was used by their children and extended family to practice rappelling and ascending on rope.  c. 2014

Tina loved to repurpose found materials to create beautiful designs. She designed this dining table top using copper flashing that had weathered outside for decades. The tree base is made from an invasive Brazilian pepper tree from their property. Tina dried out the tree base for over a year before peeling off the bark and turning it into a statement piece. c. 2011 - 2013

To enhance the fun of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, Tina would create battle maps for their family games. She would spend many hours building these intricate, well-thought out artistic maps that set the groundwork for the players to experience. For Tina, this meant an opportunity to learn new art skills and expression in an entirely new medium. c. 2017 - 2023

This underwater fantasy world was created for a D and D game. Tina created depth with shading and the broken light patterns on the sea bottom.

A painted birth announcement for a grand niece. Tina loved detail in her paintings. She wanted the margins to be just as interesting as the central subject.

A map and multilevel building floor plans for use in Dungeons & Dragons battle. Tina would spend 40 to 80 hours producing these detailed digital fantasy worlds.

Tina enjoyed creating 3D digital models  of gardens and garden structures. These could be viewed from any angle, even from inside the buildings.
