Clayton grew up in Menlo Park, California. He graduated from Menlo Atherton High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves while still in high school. He retired from Pacific Bell Telephone and bought Loch Lomond Resort in Lake County. After selling the resort he moved to Kelseyville, California to a home overlooking Clear Lake. His final days were spent living with his daughter, Robin, and her family.
Clayton was a member of many organizations throughout his lifetime including Rotary, Elks, Moose, Native Sons of the Golden West, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Masons and Shriners.
Music was a huge part of Clayton’s life. He played music in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years. He donated his time to Bethany Lutheran School in Menlo Park and participated in many parades. When he moved to Loch Lomond, he started the Loch Lomond Marching Band which later became the Big Brothers Big Sisters Marching Band. He played music with many musicians of Lake County. He donated countless hours of his time teaching children music and also made sure that any child in need had an instrument if they had the willingness to learn.
Clayton’s favorite pastime was sailing his sailboat on Clear Lake. When he was unable to sail due to blindness he would sit on the dock and gaze at his boat.
A Memorial will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Hartley Masonic Lodge in Lakeport at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice of Lake County.
