Clovis ‘Birdie’ Romero was born on March 13, 1920 in San Luis, Colorado to Anastasio and Francisca Romero. He was raised in a family with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. All but two younger brothers have preceded him in death.
Clovis remained in San Luis until being inducted into the U.S. Army on December 3, 1941. When war was declared against Japan, he was sent to Alaska and stationed in the Pribilof and the Aleutian Islands. Clovis ranked at PFC Infantry until his tour ended on October 17, 1945. His duty was predominately as a cook. This passion served him the rest of his life.
When he finished his tour with the Army, Clovis moved to Denver, Colorado and began his career with Gates Rubber Company. He worked as a machine operator for 34 years. Many of those years he also served as a union steward.
During his time in the service, he was introduced (via letters) to the love of his life – Leona Cordova. They were married on August 9, 1946 in Denver, Colorado. They were married for 33 years until her death in 1979. They had 6 children.
Clovis is survived by 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Clovis had a passion for fishing, football, gardening and cooking. But his biggest passion of all was spending time with his family.
Funeral arrangements will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Tuesday, December 6th. Services begin at 10:00 a.m. with reception to follow. Final resting is to be at Fort Logan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Heart Association.
