

Donna “Deane” Burgess made her transit on December 28, 2013. She was a second-generation Colorado native, born and raised in Denver, Colorado, where she graduated from South High, worked at Lowry Air Force base during the WWII, received a Master’s degree from Denver University, and taught school. She met Gerald Burgess at DU and they were married in 1948 before moving to Kansas City, MO, where she helped put Gerald through dental school. In 1952, Gerald and Deane moved to Delta, Colorado to start his dental practice and to raise a family. Deane moved to Fort Collins in the early 1980’s where she worked as a real estate broker and then as a medical transcriptionist after retiring from real estate. She was a volunteer for Senior Alternatives in Transportation, Meals on Wheels, and Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow network (CoCoRaHS). She moved back to Denver 4 years ago and lived out her life bringing joy to all who crossed her path.
She is survived by sons Tim Burgess (Linda) of Baltimore, Maryland, Chris Burgess (Kathy) of Durango, Colorado, daughter Melissa Yacullo (Mike) of Parker, Colorado, and grandchildren Amy Lindwall, Megan Burgess, Mallory Yacullo, and Michael Yacullo.
Her life will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 2000 Stover St., Fort Collins, CO, on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11AM.
