Glenda was born on October 5th, 1930, in Overland Park Kansas to Frank and Lurline Wells. Growing up she also lived in St. Meinrad, IN and Kansas City, KS.
She attended KU (she was an avid Jayhawk fan throughout her life!) and then graduated from Emporia State Teacher’s college in 1951. She met the love of her life, Seymour Coman, during her Junior year at Emporia State. They graduated in 1952. She taught High School English and Drama after graduation.
Glenda and Seymour were married June 21st, 1953, in Emporia, KS. They also lived in Chillicothe, MO.
In 1960 they moved to Colorado Springs with their daughter, Marty. Soon after moving, they joined First Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and deacon. She and Seymour were leaders with the high school youth ministry and were on the church mission committee for many years. Their home was open to youth groups, Young Life clubs and Air Force Academy cadets. They also helped start Covenant Presbyterian Church with Reverend Pat Hartsock in 1984.
They enjoyed traveling and took a trip around the world with ISI. Glenda and Seymour helped resettle nearly 100 refugees from Southeast Asia and helped establish a Chinese speaking church. They also spent a year in Portugal with ISI.
Glenda and Seymour were married for 59 and ½ years. Seymour passed away in December 2012.
She was surrounded by her family and friends at her daughter’s home for the last four days of her life. They shared laughter, tears, singing and beautiful conversations. This time together was truly a gift beyond words.
Glenda is survived by her children, Marty and husband, John, Shelly, Michael and husband Eric. She has 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Her family will miss her love, compassion and storytelling (she had an incredible memory). But they are comforted by the assurance that she has gone home to be with Jesus. Her love for Jesus was the centerpiece of her life.
Glenda’s Celebration of Life will be on Friday January 17th at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Compassion International in Glenda’s honor.
