James Paul Martin, 80, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and dedication to those who knew him. Born on November 3, 1944, in Salida, Colorado, James was the eldest of two children, growing up with his brother, Scott, who predeceased him.
James was a proud graduate of Colorado State University at Pueblo in 1968, where he began his journey as an educator. For 24 years, he dedicated his life to teaching Industrial Arts, touching countless lives and earning the distinction of being a three-time "Teacher of the Year." His passion for teaching and commitment to his students left a lasting impact on the community. After retiring from education, he continued to work, serving at Price Club (now Costco) until his final retirement in 2011.
James's love for learning and hands-on work was sparked early in life, as he spent many afternoons at his father’s auto repair shop, learning to work on cars and finding joy in fixing things. His adventurous spirit and insatiable curiosity carried him through life, always eager to learn and share his knowledge with others.
In 1994, James found his true partner in life when he met Patricia at the "Grizzly Rose" during a dance class. Their love was undeniable, and James proposed to Patricia in a horse-drawn carriage in front of the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. They were married on August 20, 1994, in a beautiful ceremony in Buena Vista, Colorado, surrounded by family and friends who made their union even more special. James and Patricia shared a love for each other and for life, which was evident in every moment they spent together.
James leaves behind his children, Janine, Danielle, son in law Tom, and Heather, whose hearts are filled with memories of his adventurous, fun-loving, and outgoing nature. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Michael, Nick, and Crystal, who cherished their time with him. His friendships with Wes and Anne, Ken, and Brendal were equally important to him, and the bond they shared through hunting, trap shooting, and outdoor adventures was one of the highlights of his life.
A lover of country western music, James’s joyful spirit and passion for the outdoors were contagious. His family and friends will miss the countless stories he told about his hunting, fishing, and travel adventures—stories that always brought a smile and laughter to those around him.
James had a unique way of saying goodbye: with a tap on the shoulder and a quiet walk away, never making it permanent. It’s fitting that he now leaves us with that same sense of calm, knowing that his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his children; grandchildren; and a wide circle of friends and family whose lives were enriched by his presence. James was preceded in death by his parents, Le Roy David Martin and Hilga Regis Williamson, and his brother, Scott Martin.
In lieu of a permanent farewell, we know James would want us to cherish the memories and continue to live life with the same zest and joy he did every day. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will remain forever in our hearts.
A celebration of his life will be held at a future date, where all who knew him will gather to honor the extraordinary man he was.
