Nancy Dunkle (1/5/45 - 9/18/21) was a retired botanist, with a Master’s Degree, whose career with the United States Park Service spanned four decades and involved the planning and execution of projects devoted to the vegetation of trails, campsites and roadsides of our National Park system. In that role she traveled extensively throughout U.S. national parks with various teams of environmental specialists, who worked to assess and develop proper vegetation for our parks that would be both appealing to human visitors and supportive of the local ecosystem of animals and plants.
Nancy’s social life revolved around devotion to her Friends in the Quaker Church Community and her acquaintances from the recovery organization, Overeaters Anonymous. Her participation in both of these organizations was extensive and exemplary.
In her retirement years, Nancy furthered her education to obtain certification as a Master Gardener, serving as an erudite, volunteer source of information for many persons seeking advice about their gardening endeavors.
Nancy was an avid reader and a quiet soul who enjoyed the independence and solitude of the single life at home, supplemented by the friendship of a variety of feline and canine pets to which she was devoted. In her social circle outside the home, she was very engaging and blessed with a quick wit and dry sense of humor.
Nancy is survived by her brother Bob Dunkle, her sister-in-law, Rosemary, her three nephews, Dave, Jeff, and Rick Dunkle, and her great nephew, Evan, and great niece, Reese Dunkle.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.advantagerunyan-stevenson.com for the Dunkle family.
