Sonja was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dick Edwards (January 2013). She is survived by her two children Scott (Becky) and Shelley (Crissie), her two brothers Rick and Steve, and her four grandchildren Corey, Jack, Bobby and Katy.
Sonja was born on May 2, 1939, the daughter of Paul and Gudve Olson. She lived in Lombard, Illinois for her early life. She married her husband Dick Edwards after a brief courtship. Sonja and Dick moved with their two children (Scott and Shelley) to Lakewood, Colorado in 1970. There they made Dudley Street their home for the next 41 years. Sonja spent many happy years in support of her children in their pursuits in academics and sports, through all their years of school and into college. Sonja truly loved being a wife, mom and homemaker.
Sonja was always an artistic and creative soul, demonstrating this through a wide variety of mediums. She especially enjoyed expressing herself through her cooking, sewing, ceramics, quilting and painting. Everyone knew that if they were lucky, they would have a wonderful homemade item from Sonja under their Christmas tree. Sonja was renowned for her cooking and baking skills, making every meal, snack or cake a delicious treat.
One of Sonja’s greatest joys was becoming a grandma! She loved all her grandchildren so much, and any time spent at grandma’s house was a very special time for them all. She made it a happy, loving place for them to visit. She enjoyed every moment -- cooking for them, talking to them, and playing games with them.
Sonja’s later years were filled spending time with her friends at her retirement community and, of course, spending time with her family whenever she could.
Sonja will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
