
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 16, 1930. Walter graduated from Gage Park High School in Chicago and served in the United States Army in Europe as a young man. He was married to Margaret F. Janiczek (Zwarycz) for 52 years, then widowed. They lived in Chicago, IL, Chicago Ridge, IL, Sun City West, AZ and Orland Park, IL.
Walter began his career as a Boilermaker and then transitioned to being a Pipefitter, advancing to become Superintendent in a long, successful heavy construction career.
He was survived by his six children from his first marriage: Richard, Michael, Debra, Joseph, Margaret, and Geraldine (Gerry) and his fourteen grandchildren Tiffany, Heather, Megan, David, Margaret, Joseph, Brittany, Daniel, John, Ashley, David, Candice, Alisia and Kaitlyn. He had 3 greatgrandchildren: Emma (who passed away on December 25, 2013), Penelope and Wesley. He was also survived by his loving step-sister Joanna.
Walter moved to Highlands Ranch, CO and met Audrey Lemick at the retirement community where they both lived. They married and then Audrey fell ill and passed on two years later, leaving Walter widowed a second time.
Walter enjoyed golf, fishing, “bumming-around” with the grandkids, traveling, volunteering, art and being a great husband, father, friend, helping-hand and Christian. He befriended people everywhere and meticulously and lovingly stayed in touch with all.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Centennial, CO on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 1:30PM followed by a brief reception at the Padre Restaurant at the church. Walter will be laid to rest in a Committal Service at Good Shepard Cemetery in Orland Park, IL on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1:00PM. Family and friends are invited to the brief service at one of the cemetery chapels.
Walter, coming from very modest means, always cared about the poor. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Catholic Foundation of Northern Colorado.
