

Albert A. “Al” Fortunato of Wall Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 29th, with his devoted wife of 65 years by his side. Born on June 17th, 1931, in Hoboken, NJ, Al spent more than three decades in North Bergen, where he and his wife raised their family. He later resided in Lakewood beginning in 1998 before settling in Wall Township in 2021.
Al lived life with enthusiasm, warmth, and an adventurous spirit. He cherished gatherings with family and friends and could always be counted on for joy, laughter, and good company. Among his most treasured memories were the many summers spent at the family shore house in Normandy Beach.
He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Seaman during the Korean War from 1951–1954 aboard the USS Charles Roan (DD 853).
Al was predeceased by his parents, Umberto and Paulina (née Jodice) Fortunato; his brother, John “Jack” Fortunato (2004); and his sister, Louise Cocucci (2013).
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elvira (née Pisani) Fortunato; his sister, Olympia “Lee” Mets; his sons, Albert Fortunato III and wife Kim, and Steven R. Fortunato and wife Anne; as well as his grandchildren, Dana Pavelick (Thomas), Kaitlynn Greenberg (Scott), Steven T. Fortunato (Jennifer), and Michael Fortunato. Al cherished his great-grandchildren: Sophie and Kayla Greenberg, Stevie and Julian Fortunato, and Adria Pavelick.
Al will be remembered for his generous heart, robust laughter, and the love he shared with his family.
Visitation will be held at D'Elia Funeral Home, located at 1300 Vermont Ave, Lakewood, NJ, 08701, on December 4, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place on December 5, at 10:30am at The Catholic Community of St. Mary of the Lake, 43 Madison Ave, Lakewood, NJ, 0870. Private Interment will follow.
