

Alfred F. Schuster, 92, passed away July 5, 2017 at the Concord Nursing Home in Lakewood. Mr. Schuster was born in Neiter-Steiter, Bredenshire, Germany. He came to America in 1928, lived in Newark, Irvington and Union, before serving in the U.S. Army, 143rd Inf. Rct-36th Div. He served in the European Theater with an amphibious landing in August 1944 where he was wounded. Alfred received the Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, European Theater Medal w/3 Campaign Stars and 1 Invasion, the NJ Distinguished Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal. Alfred Returned from the war to marry his sweetheart, Lucy Sauchelli, in 1946, the lived in Cranford ant then in Clark for 49 years with their 5 children. Alfred started working on the “bench” at Columbian Engineering in Newark with his brother, Fred. After many years Al and Fred bought the business, Orbit Tool & Die, in Springfield, NJ. They worked together their entire adult lives. Alfred served as president of the N.J. machining and Tooling Association, Chaplain for the Purple Heart Association, and was a member of St. John’s Holy Society; also a long time member of German-American Deutcher Club of Clark. Alfred and Lucy loved to travel, visiting Germany, Italy, Hawaii, Florida, Vegas and more. He was proud of his German background, but more so, a very proud American. He raised his children to be proud of our country, be responsible citizens, and share the love of family and friends. Mr. Schuster is predeceased by his wife, Lucy (2004), daughters Leda White (2002) and Tina Parsio (2013), brother Fred (2016). Alfred is survived by his children, Alfred Brian Schuster, wife Laura, Kenneth Schuster, wife Maryrose, Adrienne Villa, husband Duane, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, sisters-in-law, Patricia Schuster and Gloria Sauchelli. Arrangements are under the direction of the D’Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Cremation will be held privately. Interment of cremated remains will take place on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11AM at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Alfred’s memory to the Purple Heart Association.
