Dolores Doris Gill Nigro

Dolores Gill Nigro, age 87, of Lakewood, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Rose Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Toms River, NJ. Dolores was born on August 4, 1927 in New York, NY, and she was the daughter of the late Anna (Deasy) and Richard Gill. After being raised in Manhattan, Dolores resided in the Rockland County area for many years, before retiring to Lakewood over a decade ago. She received her MEd and MA from St. John’s University. Dolores was a Dominican Sister of Sparkill for 22 years. She also taught at the Pearl River Middle School of Pearl River, NY. She loved all animals and causes for pets in need of shelter. Sister of the late Maureen Horan, Dolores is survived by a niece Maureen Miller and her husband Gregory; a grandniece and a grandnephew, Ryan Miller and Colleen Miller; and her godsons, Brendan Spiegel and Michael O’Donnell. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. at the D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Her funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 in the St. Mary of the Lake RC Church, 43 Madison Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Private cremation will follow at a later date.
