She attended the Lakewood School System, and also attended Bordentown Manual Training School until it closed in her 11th year. Harriet was the wife of one husband, married 65 years of Holy Matrimony to Leroy Douglas Jr. She enjoyed her crocheting and crafts. She was a superb cook and an awesome baker. She was well known for her pound cakes. If you knew her you probably tasted one, but couldn’t get that recipe. She was a phenomenal dresser and everything had to be tip top. She was a great hairdresser. Either in your house or hers, she left you feeling beautiful. To know her you couldn’t help but to love her. She loved ALL of her family. If she saw you going left, she would tell you about it and bring you back in love. She had countless friends. You could pretty much call her at any time, except when her favorite soap opera was on “Young and The Restless.” And then there's politics, which she enthusiastically watched her favorite network coverage for hours on end. Most of all, she proudly exercised her right to vote. She was a recipient of the Camden District’s Grandparent of the Year Award.
Harriet was a good and faithful servant over the years to St. John A. M. E. Zion Church, Lakewood. She was baptized by the late Reverend J. T. Goode, then Pastor. She served well as a member of The Willing Workers, on the Usher Board, member of the church choir, and later with the Mass Choir. She was a member of the Trustee Board,President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, and President of the Stewardess Board. Most of all she was saved and Jesus was her Lord and Savior. Harriet held a deep love for her church.
