I'm quite saddened to learn of the passing of my friend Jimmy, a man I spent a lot of time with over the years and had a lot of laughs with.  Jim and I worked on dozens of projects together.  We spent hours both on site and in my office, solving problems of the job, problems of the world, discussing travel, people and many phases of life in general.  

A true friend who always had a smile on his face and something nice to say - he will be missed.

For those of you who were not at the memorial service, I would like to share with you my memorial to my father. I've posted it below.

On behalf of my family, I'd like to thank you for your love and support, and being here today to celebrate the life of my father.  

He was a simple guy. He loved coffee and the paper, vacationing, working hard, and his family.

The last week and a half has been the most traumatic of my life, but it was also a gift. I had the chance to say good-bye to my dad and tell him everything I ever wanted to say. These past days, we sat with him, snuggled, told him how much we loved him and thanked him.  And in the end, he left us in peace.

I knew I had this amazing opportunity, and I didn't want to forget to tell him anything. So when I was waiting at the airport to come home, I wrote it all down. I sat with him and read it to him before he passed, and I would like to read it to you now:
When I first got the news of the last days, it was obviously the most devastated I have ever felt in my life. Imagining a life without your hugs and smiles seems inconceivable. But I had this calm that continued to come over me as I felt sad. Mostly I just feel so lucky. Not many people are so blessed to have a father like you. And I have had you for 32 years of my life.  ….21 ?…… But even if I had you for only ten, I would never trade more time for any other father in the world. I got the best.
I got a dad who always manages to have more fun than anyone else. You threw me a beautiful fancy wedding, happily footed the overindulgent bill, and still had more fun than even me, the bride. You're always the first one on the dance floor, the first one on the ocean, the first one to crack a smile, and the first one to cheer. But you are so much more than fun. I've never met a more selfless man. When you first told me you were sick, I asked you what you needed from me. You told me to live my life, and you meant it. When I told you I was moving, you kissed me and told me you were proud of me. When I told you I was studying in France, you bought me luggage. When I told you that I was sorry for something, you told me that you loved me so much, it was not possible for me to hurt you. Your happiness is derived from what is most important you, me, mom and Jason. Dad, know that I have always felt your love for me, and it is from there that my strength as a person grew.
Even the quirks are endearing…your loud breathing…surprisingly soothing, your Fred Flinstone hands….perfectly strong, your belly….comfortable,  your loud sneezes…actually amusing, your shuffly dance moves……adorable, your handwriting….well, that's just bad!
Many people have said to me that you and I have a very special relationship. Well the word special doesn't even begin to explain the relationship that we have. I've admired you from the start. You wanted me to have everything in the world. If it was broken, you'd fix it. If it didn't exist, you'd create it. You were always proud to be my father no matter what. You were and always will be my first love, my Valentine, my buddy, and my hero. 
People always say when others pass on, they are above looking down at you, but you don't have to, Dad. I carry you in my heart. You will always be with me because you are me, and  I am you. I followed your example and I live life true to your values and morals. Thank you for teaching me the value and satisfaction gained in a job well done. Thank you for teaching me the fun of breaking out in song when my mood so suits. Thank you for teaching me not to judge others. Thanks for your hugs. Thanks for your smile when you would see me, the one that made me feel like the most important girl in the world. Thanks for being my favorite baseball game partner and teaching me how to be a good fan. Not sure if I should thank you for picking the Mets…. You taught me the important lessons in life. Help and don't expect in return, never burn bridges, live with compassion.
I break into song and dance, I love to play jokes when the joke should have been over already, sometimes I talk and laugh too loudly, I love deeply, I live respectfully, I work hard, I root with passion, I wear my heart on my sleeve, I always know where the sweets are hidden, I can hang my own pictures, I speak honestly, and I treasure the small things, the moments, the relationships, the intangible. It is with ultimate pride that I can say I am my father's daughter forever and always.  Whenever I hear our song, My Girl, I will be dancing with you in my mind. And so until we meet again, keep the dance floor warm, and save a dance for me.


Life is difficult. Death is a humbling experience and it shows you just how fragile life really is. But it's in that fragility, that the beauty lies.  My dad loved his life, and he lived in the moment. When your life gets difficult, I urge you to think of my father, a person who appreciated what he had while he had it and never took anything for granted. He loved all of you.

My dad was a nut, a real character. And our lives will never be the same. Not for having lost him, but for having had him. He is here with us today and everyday. The best of him endures in all of us.

As colleagues, Jim and I worked closely the past few years. It didn't take long for me to realize his family was the love of his life. He will be missed.

We loved every moment we spent with Jim.  He was a true friend. He became like a brother to me. Our hearts are broken, but we take comfort in knowing that  his suffering is over.  Rest in peace buddy.

I couldn't be sadder for your loss... I loved Mr Scheller so so much! This world has lost a wonderful man! Always there to help his family. He is up in heaven now watching over us all!

Jim was not only a valued employee of All American Contracting but for me was a friend as well. Well respected by his fellow workers and associates, his contribution to All American over the many years was much appreciated. Jim's committment to his family and his job were respected by all. Jim was the best brother-in-law. The four of us had great bridge games  and wonderful holiday festivities.You could always count on Jimmy if you needed a hand and now he's is God's hands.

Jim and I were colleagues at All American Contracting. We shared a love for the METS and the GIANTS.  He was a gentleman and a friend.  I am so sorry for your loss.
