Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Mauro built a life rooted in family, friendship, and community. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Joan, with whom he shared many happy years before eventually settling in the Fairways Community of Lakewood, New Jersey, in 1998.
For nearly three decades, Mauro remained an active member of the Fairways community. He regularly attended meetings and events and was also a writer for the community newspaper, The Legend.
Mauro’s dedication to staying active and engaged in life never wavered. Even at the age of 91, he continued working as a crossing guard for the Lakewood Police Department, a role he truly enjoyed. He took great pleasure in being outdoors and connecting with people each day, a reflection of his naturally outgoing and friendly personality.
He proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard, carrying that same sense of duty and commitment throughout his life.
Mauro will be remembered most for his kind heart, vibrant spirit, and genuine love for others. He had a deep appreciation for music and a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him. He was truly someone who was liked by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan.
Mauro is survived by his son, Marc DiBartolomeo and his wife, Grace; his dear sister, Filomena Carruba; his grandchildren, Sandro (Meredith) and Sophia; and his great-granddaughter, Amalia. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Marie Pietrobono. In addition, he is survived by his nieces, Marianne Kopelman (Ralph) and Donna Defferding (Preston), along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
