Born in Perth Amboy, he raised his family in Toms River and retired in Lakewood 15 years ago.
His first job was with the Ford Motor Company in Edison, but his career was with the NJ Turnpike Authority in Newark as a Superintendent of Roadways. He worked there for 41 years until retiring in 2002.
Michael loved spending the summers with family at the “bungalow” in South Seaside Park. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, bird watching and cars – above all Corvettes and convertibles. An avid sports fan, he especially loved the Yankees, Giants and Rutgers. Most of all, Michael was the happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren, family and friends.
Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, Maureen; 3 children: Scott, Kevin and his wife Chrisie, and Michelle Minelli and her husband John; 7 grandchildren: Jaime, Tyler, Dylan, Mattingly, Morgan, Maison, and Connor; and many other loved family members and friends.
Friends may call at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood on Sunday from 1-3 & 6-8PM.
A Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Lake RC Church, Lakewood on Monday at 10:30AM. A private cremation will follow. For more information, or to post a tribute online, please visit www.deliafuneralhome.com.
