Pedro Mercado

Pedro Mercado, 87, passed away July 19, 2012 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Mr. Mercado was born in Puerto Rico and moved to New York City in 1948 before settling in Lakewood for the past 13 years. Pedro served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Bridget’s in Manhattan, NY and a communicant of St. Anthony Claret in Lakewood. Pedro was an avid baseball fan, fisherman and guitarist. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Mercado is predeceased by his son Santos Mercado and brother Luis Mercado. Pedro is survived by his wife Rosa Mercado, four children, Enrique Mercado and his wife Zulma, Beatrice Yurasits and her husband David, Rosita Mercado and Virginia Soriano, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, three siblings, Antonio Mercado, Gilberto Mercado and Paquita Mercado. Friends may call Monday, July 23, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 10AM at the St. Anthony Claret in Lakewood. Interment will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Pedro’s memory to St. Anthony Claret Church in Lakewood.
