Dear brother of the late Marian Cheatle.
Loving grandfather of twelve grandchildren and great grandfather of ten great grandchildren.
Born in Bloomfield, New Jersey, Robert resided in Freehold, NJ for 27 years and relocated to Lakewood, NJ in 1999. He graduated from Central High School of Philadelphia in 1948, and earned an Associate Degree from the Newark College of Engineering in 1952. He later attended night school to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1959.
Robert served his country in the US Marine Corp Reserves from 1951 through 1953 and on active tour of duty in the US Army from 1954 to 1956.
Robert’s career began as Project Sales Engineer for Bendix Aviation Corporation in Teterboro, New Jersey where he attained “Secret” status while working on systems development for prototype and production units for missiles and aircraft. He later worked in packaging systems sales with Garvey & Sons and President of Sollas Corporation. Robert finished his career serving as President of Roberts Technology Group Inc. where he had the opportunity to work with his sons until his retirement in 2001.
A self-taught artist from an early age, Robert became an enthusiastic oil painter in retirement. His home office became an artist studio with paints, brushes and dozens of paintings scattered about. One of his great joys was to paint pictures for his children, grandchildren and friends.
Throughout his life, Robert was an avid collector of stamps, coins, and other memorabilia. He always shared his passion and knowledge with others whenever he could.
He cherished time spent with his wife and children and their families at his second home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He found fishing and walking the beach in search of the perfect shell a great form of relaxation.
A private gathering to honor Robert will be held for immediate family.
Memorial contributions in Robert’s name can be made to Lakewood First Aid & Emergency Squad, PO Box 644, Lakewood, New Jersey 08701.
