Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Staten Island, NY for many years before moving 22 years ago to Lakewood, N.J.
Robert was employed for over 4o years as an insurance salesman with MetLife before his retirement.
He had served as a high school basketball referee for many years. He was an avid golfer and was a charter member of the Eagle Ridge Golf Course. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their events.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jean Hughes, a daughter, Patricia Trent and her husband, David, two sons,
Robert Hughes Jr. and Stephen Hughes and his wife, Melissa. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Ryan Trent, Andrew Trent, Zachary Hughes, and Dylan Hughes.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
