

he was born on March 26, 1941 in Panama City, Panama. Mr. Smith came to the United States in 1961. He was a former resident of Old Bridge, NJ, Barnegat, NJ and Manalapan, NJ before moving to Manchester five years ago. Mr. Smith has a career in banking with HSBC for 37 years and he also was employed by the Toms River Board of Education for 10 years. Mr. Smith's passions in life varied between playing golf, fishing and marathon running. He was a dog lover, and he also charitably gave of his time to various humanitarian efforts.
Mr. Smith was the son of the late Josefina and Teodoro Smith, and is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Lorna (Desport) Smith; 1 daughter, Ziomara Spoelstra and her husband Robert; a grandchild, Danielle Spoelstra; a sister, Carmen Smith; a brother, Tomas Smith and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. A prayer service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. during the visitation. Cremation will be private.
