

LAKEWOOD - Stanley F. Banas, 91, of Lakewood, passed away on February 24, 2018, at Jersey Shore Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Stanley was born in Eckley, Pennsylvania to parents Frank and Mary (Rys) Banas. He served in the Army during WWII as a Tech Sargent and was discharged in 1947. Stanley then moved to Lakewood in 1952, here is where he met and married his beloved wife Helen (Ely) Banas in 1954, who passed away in 2009. Stanley obtained his B.S. degree from Kutztown University in 1952 and earned a Master’s in Education from Rutgers University in 1957 as well as his 6 Year Certificate from New York University in 1961. Stanley worked as a Teacher, Assistant Principle and finally the Business Administrator for the Lakewood School District from 1952 to 1984 when he retired. From 1987 to 2015, he served in multiple capacities, including Chairman, of the Lakewood Planning Board. He was President of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council of Ocean County in 1992 where he received the “Citizen of the Year” award in April of 2000. He served as President of Leisure Village from 1994 to 1995 and was a member of the Leisure Village Kiwanis Club since 1986. Stanley was very active in his Church, St. Mary of the Lake, serving as an Eucharistic Minister for many years. Stanley is survived by a host of Nieces, Nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Friday from 9am-11am, D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood. Funeral Mass, 12pm at St. Mary of the Lake RC Church, 43 Madison Avenue, Lakewood. Interment, Woodlawn Cemetery, Lakewood.
