

Arthur Hill began his earthly journey on June 1, 1930 in Brazos, Texas. Arthur was the middle child of five siblings born to Vernon Hill and Gertrude Washington. He was received back into the arms of the Lord on October 29, 2015. Arthur was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1949 and attended Prairie View A&M University where he excelled as a basketball star. In May 1952, he left Prairie View to join the U. S. Army and was assigned to the famous 555 (nickel) battalion. Arthur fought for his country in the Korean Conflict and was on the front line with his unit for nine months when they were cut off from the rest of his group. He was honorably released from active duty, February 6, 1954, with the rank of Sergeant, and was very proud of his service to his country. Arthur was an active member of the former ILA Local #851 where he served as Business Agent until they merged into one local (ILA Local #20). He served as business agent for ILA Local #20 for several years as well as a clerk, Gang Foreman and Board Member. Arthur was a member of Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Galveston, Texas until the family moved to Texas City where they united with Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church. Arthur leaves wonderful memories for many to cherish. His family included his devoted wife, Charlene Elaine Hill; a loving daughter, Michele Denise Hill (Victor); one sister, Barbara Jean Broussard; grandchildren, Ssati S. Ali, Nirvana Kenya C. Ali, Dallas Nicole Collins and Nicholas C. Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Waiting to welcome his into Heaven are his parents, Gertrude Rucker and Vernon Hill; two brothers, Willie Vernon Hill and William Rucker; and sister, Ethel Mae Hines.
