

Della Walker Moore was born in Grapeland, Texas to the union of Sammie Walker Sr. and Angie Brown Walker on February 8, 1923.She was educated in the public school system and graduated in Grapeland, Texas. At an early age she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized at General Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grapeland.She moved to Galveston in 1944 where she attended UTMB School of Nursing and was the first black to graduate from "Old Red". She worked at UTMB as a LVN until her retirement. She united with Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. P. H. Hinton. She has been a member of Progressive for over 70 years. She actively served as President of the Usher Board, member of the Mission, member of the Pastor's Aide and Youth Matron. She was also a member of Treasure Island Court #383 Heroines of Jericho - Prince Hall Affiliation in Galveston.She was united in marriage to Roosevelt Moore who preceded her in death in 1995.On Monday, January 18, 2016, Della received her call to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sammie Walker Sr. and Angie Walker; her husband, Roosevelt Moore; and siblings, J. C. Walker, Sammie Walker Jr., Redell Walker, Raymond Walker, T. R. Walker, L. C. Walker, Genoice Walker, Helen Collins, Louise Bryant, Johnnie Mae Dixon and Flossie Mae Walker.Left to cherish memories of her life are her sister, Mary Bradford; brothers, Lawrence Lee Walker and Charles Edward Walker; a devoted nephew, Charles Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
