

Sister Doris M. Perkins was born August 20, 1933 in Magnolia Springs, Texas to Hamp Thomas and Willie Mae Lotto Thomas. On Sunday, June 3, 2012, God in His infinite wisdom called Sis. Perkins from labor to reward at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster, Texas. Mrs. Perkins met and married Mr. James C. Perkins on January 17, 1953, settled and built their home at 325 South 19th Street where they were living when celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on January 18, 2003 Besides God, Bro. Perkins fully supported Sis. Perkins toward receiving her B. S. Degree in Elementary Education from Lamar University in May 1976. She was employed by the Kountze ISD for 20 years as a Kindergarten teacher as a reading specialist assistant before she retired in May 1998. On January 23, 1987, Mrs. Doris Perkins was presented a meritorious certificate at a Recognition Banquet sponsored by St. George Assembly No. 101 Order of the Golden Circle at the Pride of Beaumont Masonic Temple on Washington Blvd. She was honored for distinguished service and her personal contribution of time and effort to her community and state. At this particular time, Sis. Perkins was an active member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Silsbee, Texas where she taught the Intermediate Sunday School Class, a Young Women's Mission Group, served on the Usher Board and co-directress of the Training Union. She was the Associate Matron of Mayflower Chapter #81 OES, Recording Secretary of Kirby Cemetery League, served in many offices of the Royal Clover Leaf Civic Club, a Woman's Club; also as Supervisor of the Barlow Champion Boy's Club as well as a volunteer for the Sickle Cell Anemia, Heart and Cancer Foundation. She remained living at their place of residence for two years after Mr. Perkins passed away on June 2, 2005. She then moved away now living in Kemah, Texas near her daughter and family, Rosalyn and Carl Barnett Sr. who lives in Dickinson, Texas. She became involved with the Dickinson Senior Citizens where she met Mrs. Marie Jackson, who invited her to attend the Masonic Family activities. Mrs. Perkins attends the New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Dickinson, Texas, Rev. Roderick Cunningham, pastor. She is a lover of Sunday School and the Mission work. She is preceded in death by her father, Hamp Thomas; mother, Willie Mae Lotto; sister, Franzetta Cartwright; brother, George W. Thomas, Sr.; and husband, James C. Perkins. Left to celebrate her loving legacy of Christian and family values are her devoted daughter, Roslyn Barnett and husband, Carl; a sister, Lessie Joy Traylor; Godsons, Melvin Ridley, Kelvin Ridley, Albert Woodard and Alvin "Skip" Horn; her loving grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
