On October 23, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas a handsome baby boy was born to Moses Simmons Sr. and Ruthie L. Minor Simmons. They named this blessing, Leon Simmons. Leon was baptized at an early age. He attended Greater Macedonia Baptist Church until his health failed him. During Leon's childhood years, he was given the nickname "Button". Button attended public schools in San Antonio and La Marque, Texas. He was known around Galveston County for his smooth talk, his smooth walk and his stylish wardrobe, but most of all, his down to earth sense of humor.
