

Nelson Dewayne Porter, Sr. entered life March 3, 1952 in Galveston, Texas. He was the youngest son born to James G. Porter, Sr. and Ruth Marie Phelps Porter.Nelson (Big Dee Dee) as he was affectionately known attended Texas City ISD and LaMarque ISD schools and graduated from LaMarque High School in 1971, which was the first integrated graduating class. He excelled in baseball, basketball and football receiving the MVP Award in football.Nelson Sr. was loving, kind, generous, funny and a joy to his family and friends. He nurtured and mentored many youth that he coached in T-ball, little league baseball, basketball and football.After graduation he joined the electrical apprenticeship program where? he became a journeymen electrician. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 527. He then served in the Texas Army National Guard for six years. Later Nelson was employed with Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 19 years where he retired. In addition to this, he also worked for Texas City Parks and Recreation Department. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; David M. Porter, Sr. and Exia Bradford Porter; maternal grandparents; Clarence Sr. and Estella Caldwell Phelps and parents, James G Porter, Sr. and Ruth Marie Phelps Porter.He married Anita Jo Gordon and to this union they had two sons, Nelson Dewayne Porter, Jr. and Adrian Jamaal Porter, Sr.He leaves his loving and devoted wife of 41 years Anita J. Porter; sons, Nelson D. Porter, Jr. (Necole) and Adrian J. Porter, Sr. (Keisha)Brothers; James G. Porter, Jr. (Doris) and Dr. Clarence M. Porter; Grandchildren; Imani Porter, Adrian Porter, Jr., Aubrie Porter and Maurice Williams. Father and mother-in-law, Joseph M. and Helen Gordon, Sr., brother-in-law Joseph M. Gordon, Jr., (Sylvia) sister-in-law, Angelina Gordon. Aunts; Margaret Phelps Clouser , Dora Betty Williams Porter, Eleanor Porter Ledet and Veola Porter Gatewood. Uncles; Larry Porter, Robert Porter and Carl Porter; Goddaughter Krystal Shaw and Godson Christopher Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
