

On February 28, 1949, a son was born to Lonnie and Malinda Peterson in Dickinson, Texas, whom they named Steven Joseph Peterson. At an early age, Steven joined Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.L. Washington. Steven graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in May 1967 and joined the United States Army soon after. He fought bravely in the Vietnam War, and after completing his tour of duty in 1970, he returned home. Steven, known to his family and friends as Bebo, was a Jack of All Trades' as he worked numerous jobs. He enjoyed dancing (cutting a jig), playing cards, fishing, crabbing, cooking and making his World Famous' boudin. Bebo also took pleasure in watching sports, especially when he was able to cheer on the Los Angeles Lakers or Dallas Cowboys. Steven is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Peterson and Malinda Peterson; and, two brothers, Donald Peterson and Bobby Peterson. He is survived by his wife, Regina Jones; two sons, Kenya Smith of Denver, Colorado and Steven Peterson of Dickinson, Texas; daughter, Ashley Peterson of Texas City, Texas; four grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Kenya Smith II, Jazaya Smith, and Thalmus Tate Jr.; five sisters, all of Dickinson, Texas, Emily Devault, Peggy Farmer and husband Alton, Nell Devault and husband Charles, Loretta Peterson, and Linda Peterson; brother, Christopher Peterson and wife Jackie of Dumfries, Virginia; and, a host of nieces, nephews , relatives and friends.
