On a brisk winter's day, December 11, 1956, a beautiful baby girl was born in Crockett, Texas. Her name is Vera Lee Ware Adams, the daughter of Jesse L. Ware and Nannie B. Jackson. Vera was educated in the public schools of Crockett, Texas and was a graduate of Crockett High School. At an early age she gave her life to Christ and united and was baptized at St. Luke Baptist Church in Crockett, Texas by Rev. J. T. Groves. On December 13, 1980, Vera married the love of her life, Johnnie Lee Adams, Sr. She moved to Texas City and continued her Christian walk with the Lord with Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor H. A. Ratcliff, Jr. and continued her faithful service under Pastor James E. Brown, Sr. and currently, Pastor Andrew W. Berry, II. Vera was a loyal and dedicated member of Barbour's Chapel. She served as a member of the Music Department; past president of the Hospitality Committee; and member of the Education Fund Committee. She also dedicated her time and talent working with the youth on Saturday mornings with the Tutorial Program. God blessed Vera with a special gift for cooking and baking. Her delicious dishes and baked goods were enjoyed by family members and friends from far and near. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen preparing something special for whatever occasion. Everybody had a special desert that they were fond of whether a banana pudding, peach cobbler, cake or pie, each baked good was made with love in her heart. Vera was employed with Start Smart Child Development Center in La Marque. She was dedicated to her job and the children she came in contact with.
