

Lt Colonel Albert “Al” Frank Moller, USAF (ret) 88, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 30, 1936, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Angela and Albert Moller (both deceased), Al lived a life marked by dedication, service, humor, and love.
Al was married to Martha, his high school sweetheart and love of his life for 65 wonderful years. Together, they built a legacy of love, raising three children: David (Sandy), Deborah (Keith), and Dell (Fran). He was the proud grandfather of Brooke, Stephen (Ariel), Nikki (Mike), Janie (Noah), Taylor, and Sophia, and the great-grandfather of Grayson, Xander and Kaylen, all of whom brought immense joy and laughter to his life.
A proud graduate of Rutgers University, Al went on to serve his country with honor as a pilot in the United States Air Force. Al flew KB-50 refueling tankers and then transferred to flying C-130s during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and dedication in every mission. Al retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years of distinguished service, earning numerous accolades, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star, among many other honors and citations. During his military career, Al, Martha and their children were stationed in Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Okinawa, Ohio, Minnesota, and New Jersey. Al was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association in Lancaster, Ohio, working hard to secure VVA college scholarships in support of veteran families. Al also served for over 10 years as a Fairfield County Veterans Commissioner to further help veterans get the benefits they have earned.
In retirement, Al and Martha spent their golden years exploring new places and making cherished memories together. Al and Martha enjoyed their travels with friends as well as summer vacations to Disney World and the Outer Banks with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time tinkering with his model trains and was a member of the Hocking Valley Model Railroaders. Al found immense joy in supporting his children and grandchildren in their pursuits, always cheering them on from the sidelines.
Al will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather. His warmth, humor, and steadfast character left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Al is survived by his beloved wife Martha; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and his brothers Richard and Gerald (Jackie).
A visitation will be held Friday, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home. Funeral services 2:00 PM Saturday January 11, 2025 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 231 E Mulberry Street, Lancaster. Burial will be held at Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lancaster, Ohio Vietnam Veterans Association, Chapter 1045, 1846 Salt Lick Drive, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Al’s legacy of love, service, humor, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
