

He was born on April 21, 1929, to the late Virgil and Beatrice Bowland. He retired from Anchor Hocking after 42 years of employment. John was a devoted member of the Lancaster First United Methodist Church. He was also a lifelong member of the Lancaster-Fairfield County Charity Newsies. He was a former Lancaster City Councilman, Past President of Rotary Club of Connellsville, PA, former member of Lancaster Men’s Chorus and the Olivedale Senior Center.
He is survived by his children, son, Steve (Roxanne) Bowland; daughter, Ann (Jeff) Cherry; grandchildren, Beth (Will) Rockwood, Meagen Bowland, Mary (Patrick) Morgan & Berke (Jessi) Bowland; great-grandchildren, Jayse Rockwood, Kenadie Morgan, Mileigha Bowland, Brooklyn Rockwood, Isaiah Bowland, Josiah Bowland and Olivia Bowland; sister-in-law, Ruth Bowland, and fur-baby, Miss Kitty.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 74 years, Yvonne Bowland; infant son, David Michael Bowland; brother, James Harley Bowland; sister-is-laws, Esther McCleery & Maxine (Edward) Rutherford; & step-mother, Florence Bowland.
John loved his family, his church & the beach. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes & Columbus Blue Jackets. He was also a crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Visitation for John will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 2PM-5PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME and ONE HOUR before the funeral service. Services will be held on Monday at 11AM at the FUNERAL HOME with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s member may be made to First United Methodist Church (163 E Wheeling St, Lancaster, OH), Charity Newsies (PO Box 1443, Lancaster, OH) or the Pickering House (282 Sells Rd Lancaster, OH).
The family would like to thank special caregivers Abbey Armentrout & Crystal Conrad, the staff at Main Street Care Center & the Pickering House, for the wonderful care of John in his final days.
