

Richard (Dick) C. Honsberger, 96, passed away Friday, June 13th at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio. Dick was a 1947 graduate of Bloomville High School and received a two-year degree from Coyne Electrical School in 1949. In 1952, Dick served with the United States Marine Corps with the Seventh Recruit Battalion, Platoon 723 stationed at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune. In 1992, he retired from Diamond Power Specialty Company in Lancaster where he began as a draftsman in Design Engineering, then moved to Shop Foreman, eventually moving up to Director of Human Resources in Industrial Relations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a former president of the Diamond Power Unity Club. Dick was an avid golfer and was seen routinely at The View Golf Course Monday through Friday right up until February of this year. His hobbies included carpentry, Bridge, Euchre, Pinochle, and in his younger days, softball and bowling. He has traveled coast to coast including Alaska and Hawaii as well as many European and Middle Eastern countries. In his early years, Dick was a Design Draftsman working for North American Aviation in Columbus, Ohio and Ralph Simms & Associates in Lancaster Ohio. He is survived by his son, Richard K. (Rick) and his wife MaryLynn of Lancaster, grandchildren, Lisa Honsberger (and her son, Arrith Ray), Arren (Dan) McDonald of Murray City, Andrew, Alex, and Christopher (Peyton) McDonald (and their son, Beau) of Murray City, Nephews, Curtis Gray (Florida), and Steve (Susan) Gray (Pennsylvania), step-children, Kelly (Rhonda) Norris, Mark (Laurie) Norris, and Kristi (Todd) Norris-Clifford, step-grandchildren, Nicholas (Ashley) Norris, Lindsey (Jeff) Meadows, Joshua Norris, Brooke (Eric) Green, Aaron Norris, Tyler (Laura) Norris, Elizabeth, Chase, Bridget and Rachel Clifford. Dick's life-long friend, Dutch Edeburn was close as any brother could be and his life would not be the same without having Dutch as his best friend. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy M. Honsberger (1997), second wife, Mary E. Hanna-Norris-Honsberger (2013), son, Trenton F. Honsberger (1994), and his parents, Forrest H. (1968) and Mildred M. Honsberger (2003). Visiting hours will be Thursday, June 19th, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM and on Friday, June 20th, at 12:30 PM with the service at 1:30 PM, officiated by Pastor Russell Johnson, at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home located at 436 North Broad Street in Lancaster, Ohio.
