

Sewall Farrell Jackson died Saturday July 29, 2023 at Main Street Terrace nursing facility. Judge Jackson was born October 15, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sewall O. and Opal M. Jackson, brother, Dennis and sister, Beverly Jackson.He was married to Ruth J. Williams in 1953 and they had 2 children, Cheryl (Haynes) and Stephen. They had 4 granddaughters. Ruth died in 2008. Farrell, married Patricia in 2009 and has a stepson, Nathaniel (Andy) Platt. Farrell lived in Lancaster, Ohio with his wife, Patricia. Farrell attended South high school in Columbus, Ohio and Ohio State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Law degrees. Farrell entered Ohio State when he was 16 years old and was the youngest member of his law school class. He served as a Judge Advocate in the USAF for two years and was in the reserves for 12 years. He was elected as a Judge for the Lancaster Municipal Court in 1969, then elected to the Common Pleas Court, probation and juvenile division in 1972. In 1994, a new domestic relations court was created in Fairfield County and Farrell was elected as the 1st judge of the new court. With a mandatory retirement age in Ohio, he retired in 2006 after 37 years on the bench. In retirement, he sat as a visiting judge in several counties. Farrell served on the Academy Board for Congressman Clarence E. Miller for 25 years, reviewing applications and making recommendations for students entering the military academies. He served as Vice President for the Fairfield County TB & RD board for 11 years. He was active on the family Y board and was president of the Y for 3 years. As the probate judge, he was instrumental in urging the community to establish the Fairfield Foundation and that group gave him their first ever Don C Wendell Legacy Award in 2009.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in his memory. The family wishes to thank the staff of Main Street Terrace, Home Helpers and Hospice of Central Ohio for the exceptional care give to the Judge.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 3 at 11AM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME with Joe Clark and Steve Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Lithopolis Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM at the funeral home.
