Sandra J. Turnbull went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 12, at the age of 78, following a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Known to many as “Sandy,” she was a remarkable woman with a servant’s heart, always ready to lend a hand or share a hug and a smile. A proud graduate of Troy High School in Ohio, she went on to attend a Christian college in Michigan and later studied at The Ohio State University. Sandy had a lifelong passion for learning, creating, and serving others. Her deep involvement in 4-H shaped much of her life. She excelled in both horseback riding and sewing, and later gave back as an advisor to a 4-H sewing club, inspiring countless young people. Sandy’s talents also flourished through her business, Sandy's Custom Stitchery, which she successfully ran for over 20 years. Alongside her creative pursuits, she embraced farm life by working hand-in-hand with her husband on the family’s feeder pig operation. Sandy’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster, where she volunteered in the church’s free store, worked on several maintenance projects, and welcomed others as a greeter with her husband. She also co-chaired a mission initiative at a previous church and participated in multiple mission trips, living out her faith through service. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Allen Turnbull; her children: John (Julie) Turnbull, Jeannette (Chad) Schmelzer, and Jarrod (Annie) Turnbull; her grandchildren: Rebecca (Jacob) Schrote, Tyler Turnbull, Joseph (Hallie) Schmelzer, Cade (Makenna) Schmelzer, Trey Schmelzer, Jarrod Turnbull Jr., Angelica Turnbull, and Avery Turnbull; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Steve (Kate) Glazier; brother-in-law, Gene (Shirley) Saxton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Betty Glazier; her sister, Susan Saxton; and her brother, Stanley Glazier. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at First Baptist Church, 1950 Pleasantville Road, Lancaster, Ohio Friday May 16, 2025 at 12 noon. Friends may visit with the family 2 hours prior to the service, which will be officiated by Pastor Tim Rucker. A graveside service will follow at Forest Rose Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio. The Turnbull family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Primrose Memory Care and FairHope Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the mission program at First Baptist Church Lancaster or to FairHope Hospice and Palliative Care of Lancaster.
