It is with deep sorrow the family announces the passing of Catherine Scotland Collier on March 7, 2010. Catherine was born to Alta and Gabriel Bulloch October 2, 1924 in Nanaimo BC. She was raised in Nanaimo and it was there she met her adoring husband, Ronald, during the Second World War. After the war, they moved to Vancouver and eventually resided in North Burnaby where they raised their family. Cathy and Ron travelled through Europe and Britain during their pre-retirement years, and after retirement, enjoyed cruising in the Caribbean and touring the eastern Provinces and United States. The grandchildren were first in Cathy’s life. She was always in the stands cheering them on at their various sporting and school events. Her grandchildren were the best dressed kids on the block as shopping was Cathy’s “pleasure in life.” Cathy enjoyed curling both as a spectator and participant, in her younger years, and spent many hospital hours during the Olympics watching her favorite sport. She also enjoyed hockey and was a season ticket holder to the Vancouver Canuck games for many years. She had a flare for gift wrapping and spent hours choosing the perfect paper with matching ribbon only to watch the grandchildren tear through the paper in seconds to get to their carefully chosen gift!
Catherine was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Ronald (January 2009), and by her brother, Gabriel (1976). She is survived by her loving family; daughters, Heather (Roy) Taylor and Brenda (Clifton) Scott; grandchildren Leilani (Dave) and Meridee Taylor, Kyle (Ashley) and Clayton Scott, and great granddaughter Chelsi Taylor. She is also survived by sisters, Lucy Peters and Irene (Gene) Klymchuk, and sister in law, Florence White, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Mom’s caregiver, Helen, for providing excellent care and companionship for Mom over the past year.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 17 at 2:00 pm at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 20786 Fraser Highway, Langley, BC. Interment to take place the following day in Nanaimo, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
