David Edgar Joe Magnusson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, David Magnusson, on May 21, 2021 at the age of 78. David was surrounded by his family: his wife, Janette, sons Graham and Chris, daughters-in-law Karen and Jennifer, and his two wonderful grandsons, Josiah and David.

David was born in 1942 in Kencot, Oxfordshire, England, and immigrated to Canada with his mother, Hazel (Tinson) Magnusson in 1946 with nothing. David served in the RCMP and was posted in Toronto, ON, before earning a degree in Civil Structural Engineering at UBC in Vancouver. He was Chief Building Inspector for the City of Surrey, BC for 27 years, retiring in 2000.

David gave generously of his time to several organizations throughout the years. He was President of Judo BC and helped organize three national championships and dozens of judo tournaments for the Abbotsford Judo Club. He was Commander of the Pacific Mainland District of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, Training Officer and an instructor for Sur-Del Squadron, and an executive in White Rock Squadron. David was also an active member of the Vancouver Rowing Club’s Yachting Section and enjoyed spending time with his family on the waters off the BC coast as Captain of the M/V Kencot.
