Born April 7, 1956, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, David was the beloved son of Fraser Rodger and Isabel Haney. He grew up with a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life and was known for his sharp wit, quick wordplay, and love of double entendres. A fan favourite being “What bugs Bugs Bunny? Bugs bug Bugs Bunny, What bugs Bugs Bunny’s bugs? Bugs bug Bug Bunny’s bugs”... He often had people laughing long after they realized what he'd actually said.
David worked for Cintas for over a decade, proudly driving a truck through some of the most beautiful parts of British Columbia. His favourite route, from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo, he would say with a grin, “you can barely call this work.” He cherished the simplicity of the journey. His family could always count on a sunset photo from the back of the boat.
He was a lifelong lover of music, often found with ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Who, or Red Hot Chili Peppers playing in the background. Although if ever driving in the car with him- silence or classical music. He was a writer of poems and could spin words into unexpected turns of phrase, making even the most ordinary moments feel just a bit more profound—or absurd. He had a deep love for a good western film, a cold Kokanee or Labatt Blue, and any and all hockey games. Saturday nights were sacred.
David had a soft spot for every dog the family ever owned, especially his Pomeranian sidekick, Kiedis. He loved nothing more than sitting quietly with a dog at his side, a beer in hand, and a game on the screen. Being a “Harley Guy” brought him joy and freedom, even though his commute to work was under 2 minutes. This he took pride in.
He dreamed of one last ride across the country on the train from Vancouver to Toronto—though he didn’t quite make it, we like to believe he still got on that train.
David lived a simple life and didn’t need much to be happy. His happiness came from his family, a good laugh, a well-timed pun, and the knowledge that he could make someone smile with his unique sense of humor.
Remaining to cherish David’s memory are his spouse, Marie; children, Evan (Bryce), Hayley (Garth), and Tanner; and grandchildren, Remy, Layne, Leland, and Callum.
