1935 September 17 – 2017 August 28
George was born in Germany. He witnessed and experienced firsthand the atrocities of war. As a result, he chose to leave the memories behind by seeking a more peaceful life in Canada. In 1959, he immigrated, settled in Edmonton, and operated heavy equipment. By 1962, he moved to Vancouver and worked in a machine shop before buying his first property in Ladner in 1965. George loved horses and the property in Ladner allowed him to keep horses. He worked for the Delta School Board as a maintenance and repair person until he retired. In 1989, he and his horses moved to a 2 acre parcel in Langley. In 2002, he left the larger property and moved to a smaller one in the City of Langley. Rain or shine, George went for his evening walk. His neighbors always knew when he was coming as they could hear him whistling.
George spent countless hours volunteering. He drove the elderly to medical appointments all over the Lower Mainland and patiently waited with them for hours at a time. He was well known and appreciated by the staff at the Langley Senior Resources Center. He was always present to lend a hand to his neighbours.
George enjoyed travelling and reading. When he read in the bible that Jehovah God has a plan to remove war and suffering from the earth, George finally felt at peace and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He actively shared his new-found truth with others who would listen.
He is survived by his son Hartwig, sister Christa, brother Kurt, and two grandchildren Henneing and Freya who all reside in Germany. He was well loved and respected by his friends, neighbor's, and fellow Jehovah’s Witnesses who will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00pm on Saturday, September 9th, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 21465 Old Yale Road, Langley, BC
Arrangements under the direction of Henderson's Langley Funeral Home, Langley, BC.
