Following a very short illness with metastatic cancer, Hazel, 87, died August 2, 2013 in Hospice at Langley Memorial Hospital. She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Norman Sibson - "Marrying him was the smartest thing I ever did!" Also predeceased by sisters Dorothy, Irene, Gerry, Val, Gladys and brothers Gordon and Frank Parsons. She is survived by children Lindsey (Joe) Gri and Robert (Michele) Sibson. Grandchildren Matthew and Kaileen Gri, Rhianne (Adam) MacNeill, Nicholas, Kristiana, and Alexandra Sibson and two great-grandchildren Lyla Jack- Sibson and Olivia MacNeill. Hazel was born in Vancouver and grew up in Marpole. She graduated from Magee High School in 1944. She had a sense of community and volunteered first at the USO in the 1940's, then at the Thetis Club. Later she was also the secretary and social committee chair for the Vancouver Cruising Club. Hazel enjoyed playing bridge, the Arts, singing, story telling, and cheered on all sports, especially tennis and hockey. Hazel and Norman built their family home and resided in North Vancouver for 45 years. They had countless happy times at the family cabin at Secret Cove and on their many powerboats. She will be missed by her friends at Langley Gardens and extended family, especially Marion Johnston. The family gratefully thanks Dr. David Chapman, the staff of 2NB at Langley Memorial Hospital, and Langley Hospice for their compassionate care. A Memorial Tea will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28 2013 at 2 pm at Henderson's Funeral Home - 20786 Fraser Hwy., Langley, B.C. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to your local Hospice in Hazel's name would be greatly appreciated.
